Eyelid surgery for men (‘blepharoplasty‘) is a very common cosmetic surgery for men with a sad and tired look. The aim of blepharoplasty is to remove the excess eyelid skin and the fat bags under the eyes.
What types of eyelid surgery for men are there?
Upper blepharoplasty is the procedure to remove the excess of the skin, produced by either the flaccidity of the eyelid or by the sagging of the eyebrows. The eyebrows in men are usually heavier and their position is more horizontal over the orbital rim.
This is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia. It is not painful in the postoperative period and it will produce a little of bruising and swelling that subsides in 2 weeks as much. Stitches are removed in 5-7 days.
Lower blepharoplasty removes fat bags under the men’s eyes. Here, skin flaccidity in men is less usual.
Modern surgery for lower eyelid seeks the most natural result with the fewer complications. At our plastic surgery clinic in Barcelona, we perform “the transconjunctival approach”, which allows for effective treatment of the fat bags without injurying the skin or muscle and avoiding complications. There are no stitches and swelling and bruising are far less common than with the classic approach.
The operation is performed under local or local and sedation.
What kind of result will I get with eyelid surgery?
We know that men seek a less obvious change and obviously a natural masculine look. So eyelid surgery for men is slightly different than for women, because we avoid a high upper eyelid crease and our technique aims at leaving no visible evidence of scarring. Men don’t usually wear make-up so the scarring has to be the least visible as possible.
Eyelid surgery for men is a very common cosmetic surgery amongst our patients from abroad, and it tends to be combined with other rejuvenation procedures such as botox or fillers.
